New must-trys at Pu Tien

Mr FAT and I took leave last friday to give ourselves a break from work and kids.

After groceries shopping and a visit to the library, we decided to have a late lunch at Pu Tien outlet at Vivo City. We were craving for the lor mee... ( I still do not have a picture of our fav lor mee, its not on their website!)

When we reached there at about 2.30pm, the wait staff informed us that they would be starting their new high tea buffet at 3pm. We were pleasantly surprised when they showed us the menu, the buffet items are aplenty and most of them are what we usually order ala carte.
(refer to my old post on Pu Tien)
There were two dishes which we tried for the 1st time and they were very delicious! A definitely must-try!

(I did not bring a camera, the pictures were from the website)

Drunken cockles

Pu Tien Style Century Eggs

Afternote: Forgot to mention, the high tea buffet is priced at $10++ per pax (about $12) and from 3pm to 5pm, only from Mondays to Fridays.

Lunch date at Two Chefs

Had a nice lunch date with mr FAT today. (thanks leh, big guy...although I paid for the food and I suggested the place...dun say I gey gao hor... where's the romance? )

I was at my Buona Vista office today and he is working in Bukit Merah.

Initially, we wanted to go to Holland Dr's famous XO fishhead noodles but I recalled reading about this good eating place at commonwealth crescent...Two Chefs Eating Place.

Set in a 70s' coffeeshop tucked in the idyllic neighbourhood of Commonwealth Crescent, it felt like we are transported back to the kampong days.

Like discovering a gem in the muddy waters, our eyes lit up when we found the place. Although the place was run-down, but the food was cheap and good.

Too bad, I was so engrossed in eating that I forgot to take photos. (click on the link to see a review and the photos by a popular food blog)

We ordered the signature butter pork ribs , 3 colour spinach and golden mushroom tofu.($8 per plate and they came in generous portions!)

可惜,we did not order their signature cold cockle dish coz mr FAT find them too fattening. (ahem!...)

Overall, it is a good, value for money place for frens or family gatherings. Would go there again :)

Packed Saturday

Last Saturday was a packed one. It was my working saturday and I met up with hubbie for lunch at Mahattan Fish Market at P.S after work. I did some christmas shopping while he spent his time at the games arcade.

Before marriage = Shopping together...........

After marriage = You do your stuff, I do mine. I meet you 1 hour lata at this place. If you decided to meet up earlier, give me a call.

Well, not that I m upset about the current arrangement though, in fact I m glad that he's not around to control my spending. You know, it's very tough to shop-splurge with a guy, especially with one who alwis update his bank book ;p

We had the seafood platter for two and a mudpie for dessert. (I thought they lost their legal suit with Fish & Co.? How come they are still serving the food in pans?)

We went to the temple at Paya Lebar to pray and thank 'Tai Shui'. It's a must to do so before 22 Dec, my mum tells us.

The temple has these zodiac predictions for the year 2007 and we were more interested in the predictions of the goat and the snake.

We then headed back home to wash up before attending baby ryan's 1- month celebration.

Congrats to Darren and Calista on the birth of their adorable baby boy :)

October babies, kimchi and the departed

No, this post is not about life and death...

We wanted to gorge ourselves with glorious food and we tried to find a reason to do so...

That's how we ended up celebrating the birthday of the October babies with korean food (kimchi!) at the Crystal Jade Ginseng Chicken...and catching the movie, "The departed" after the meal.

We had the expensive (about $50++++) imperial set meal and mr FAT got his belated gifts from ms Cactus and Ms Kitty...

But all of us felt that the imperial set was not worth the $$$...

We caught the movie, "the departed"...three words to summarize the movie, Predictable, Violent, Crude :P The guys dun even look as hot as Andy and Tony in the HK version!

anyway, here's the photos.....

The Imperial Da Chang Jin Set.....

Look at the centre photo...

His hazy bdae

7 Oct 06, Sat

It's his birthday!

It's also the haziest day ever! ;P

City skyline shrouded with ash

Even the trees are running from the haze!

I have been giving him gifts since 2 Oct 06, one gift everyday till his bdae...

Inexpensive, practical gifts I gave him...just as he wished. (razor blades, belt, cologne...etc boring guy stuff)

What was exciting and interesting to him were not the gifts, but the bdae dinner treat!

I brought him to this jap restaurant, Ikoi at Miramar Hotel where we had a fabulous ala carte buffet dinner (yes, its buffet again! its his fav food!).

Compared to Hanabi and Kushibo jap restaurant, it has less variety of food but mr Fat thought that Ikoi's food taste better. I agreed with him and the service was good.

The restaurant allow reservations at specified timing so that they could control the number of customers they are serving. Yes, you have to book in advance to have the buffet dinner there!
Because of this practice, they were able to dish out hot piping food pretty fast right after you place your orders.

Unlike most ala carte buffets, you do not feel that you have to wait for your food, you also do not feel that you have too many dishes on your table at one time. Their sashimi was very fresh and they also served complimentary surprise food items every now and then.

After our dinner, we went to collect his complimentary bdae cake from Secret Recipe and we had a mj session with the biyongz and the singtellerz (haha..new name for the couple!)

I tink the best bdae gift for him was that I agreed to getting a fish tank for our orange hse!

Men.....they are so easy to please ;)

Afternote: He had set up his fish tank on sunday. Tink he would buy the $188 small red arowana which he had been eyeing during our trip to Qianhu fish farm

Surprise!

20 Sept 06

I must have told no fewer than 10 persons about his bdae surprise for me this year.

hmm..lemme recap wat he has given me on my bdaes during these 6 years (yah, we known each other for six years! And we dated for 5 yrs b4 tying the knot...it doesn't feel long to both of us..)

(some presents may be for christmas or vdae...really, I can't rem which is for each...simply too many..)
- a ring for my pinkie
- watches
- perfume
- necklaces, pendants
- homecooked dinner
- tulips
- cakes : durian / yam
- handphone battery (I was carrying a heavy N3310 then. Appreciated the lightweight lithium batt.
- handphones

I was feeling moody and upset when I came home on 19 Sept, seeing the smelly pile of clothes still sitting there, waiting for me to wash them.

I thought he would have taken the initiative to wash them as a present for me.

I did not expect him to give me a gift but I expected that he would do something special and surprise me.

I started the 'you-were-not-like-this-before-we-were-married' mode. This went on till I went to bed, still fuming over his 'not-affected-still-joking' reaction on my outburst.

I did not suspect a thing coz I was fuming....

Then his hp alarm went off at 12am. We were not asleep yet. He wished me happy bdae in the darkness, then passed me something in his hands.

I got excited and started to 'feel' what the gift was.

"It's a handphone battery!" he gushed excitedly.

I could not believe him but my hands were indeed groping a battery.

"Huh, why battery? I dun need one wah....I got one charger at home, and one in office..."

"You were not like that before we were married! You were happy when I bought you a hp battery!" mr Fat cried in mock sadness.

I 'resigned' myself to fate and thanked him for the battery, smiling weakly at the same time and went back to sleep.

"Come, wake up lah, let's check if the battery fits.." he switched on the bedside lamp and nudged me to sit up.

"No need bah...need meh? Sure fit one lah..." I grumbled, tinking how absurb he can be, while controlling my temper. He was sweet enough to get me a gift.

Then out of nowhere, he pulled out a box and passed it to my hands.

It's a video cameracorder!

I was speechless.

Oh my gawd! The 'hp battery' was actually the cam's spare battery. What a relief!

I was very surprised he was willing to buy such expensive gift for me. mr Fat is well-known for his tight purse strings.

Although the cam was not really ex. and branded type, its sanyo (ok, dun scream at me) but nevertheless his efforts got an A* from me :)

Turned out that he has been researching for this purchase a few weeks on his own, often after his work. I did not even realise it! My colleagues say I m too blur and too dumb to realise anything ;P

He even got me a mini durian cake!

After the surprises, the oohs and haas, I felt stupid suddenly.

I must have looked and sounded like a spoilt child demanding for my bdae gift earlier on. And he, knowing that I would be pacified by his surprise gift, chose to wait and see me sulking till my bdae. It must have been very funny to him!

Grrr....

Anyway, I loved the gift and I washed the pile of clothes very willingly on my bdae.

To thank him for the gift, I gave him a treat at his fav jap buffet restaurant and went to watch "The Banquet" with him.

Epic movie, grand and magnificent movie set. Storyline a bit boring but loved the costumes and you can tell that it's not cheap to produce this movie...so it's worth the ticket price!

Now it's time for me to mull over what to get him for his bdae....I dun tink I can keep surprises....mabbe I would ask him what he wants...hmmm...

Aunties and market

19 Sept 06

Had dinner with my colleagues from the other offices at "Central" cafe at Takashimaya.

Met up shervon 1st and mighty mike joined us shortly.

We had a helluva fun bitchin' about those whom we dun really like in our workplace...

black mama..CKM...coconut lady and many more..

Mighty mike and me must have been arch-enemies or maybe we fought over the same guy in our previous lives...( I m presuming he's a gal in his previous life).

We could not stop bickering and 'insulting' each other. I can't believe I m using the same model of hp as him! eeeks!

Mighty mike and me did something really 'auntie'.

We were walking past Kalms' and I pointed to him a cute cow's coin bank.

I had expected his reaction to be of a typical guy's reaction as in "Nice meh?" or just a simple "Yah, quite cute."

But to my surprise, he said in his most 'auntie' manner, " I saw this at centrepoint, selling at $24.90. They are selling the cheapest there."

My instant reaction was "You so sure its cheaper there meh?"

"Sure, wanna bet? They must be selling this at about $30 plus." he smugly replied.

"Ok, let's go in and take a look."

We saw the coin banks and the salesperson was standing next to them.

The salesperson started his sales talk,

"This is a new product. We are selling it at a low introductory price of $26.90. You can't find such prices in other places. We are charging the lowest."

I looked at mighty mike in amusement and started talking like a 'auntie',

"I dun tink your shop's is the cheapest. My fren here saw this coin bank going at $24.90 each only."

"Cannot be. Must be of a different design." the salesperson argued.

Then mighty mike aka 'Auntie' of the 'aunties' and bitch of the bitches stepped up and retorted,

"It's the exact same design I saw at John Little at Centrepoint and they are really selling at $24.90. Dun believe, go see yourself."

At this point of time, embarassed shervon was finding a hole to hide herself. She did not want to be associated with the two 'aunties'.

Then Mike and me left the shop, leaving the clueless, hapless salesperson wondering what had just happened.

Lucky for shervon, sabby arrived and saved her from the two 'aunties'.

Then we proceeded to sample the mooncakes at the mooncake bazaar at taka where we managed to continue our yakking as we walked thru' the bazaar crowd. Then we sat ourselves at kopi bean for some more bitchin'.

It was a fun gathering, I dun tink I have ever tok so much within such a short period of time with this group of people. It's like a mini-market. That's what you get when you put 4 PR persons together!

I m looking forward to the next one, guys!
