A walk in the nature

We went for a little walk in the nature last weekend.

We went to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

Armed with an old camera and a bottle of H2O, hubbie and me entered the reserve via its route 1.

There were so many monitor lizards roaming around, I almost stepped on one!

Luckily, we did not see any 'floating logs' in the water....

The view at the Aerie was breathtaking, where you see the entire mangrove swamp.

It was a refreshing break from the stupid haze and somehow the air felt fresher there!

I now look forward to go to Chek Jawa!

Anybody wans to join?

His precious

He finally bought it after numerous trips to the fish farms....

One of our trips to the fish farms...my sis and hubbie

$280

That was the price of this red tail golden (RTG) arowana and its size is only like a 15cm ruler...

It is not the premium breed and its silvery scales do not cross the back but it's still a good arowana. It comes with a certificate and a microchip embedded in its body. The seller says you can trade in for a bigger and better arowana after 2-3yrs...like diamonds and handphones...

I name it "Precious" coz its his precious $280 fish.

Wanted to call it a 'TV' coz hubbie can sit in front of the tank and watch it for hours....

mr FAT keeping fit

He is alwis saying that he is pretty good in basketball coz he was in his school's basketball team and his school team got the 2nd placing in the East Zone Schools' Basketball Tournament.

Anyway, he decided that he should join his frens for a game of basketball one sunday and I decided to do a 2.4km run on my own. I finished my run and they were still searching for a basketball court to play.

Finally, they found one which was not occupied and started playing....

He never 'fail' to remind me that he was in his primary school's basketball team.

True enough, his basketball standard was still the same during his school days...

Primary school standard? ;)

I think I shall stop calling him "mr FAT" coz he is staying true to his nickname, getting fatter....tsk tsk

Shall denote him as "teletubbie"...opps! "hubbie" in my future postings....

October babies, kimchi and the departed

No, this post is not about life and death...

We wanted to gorge ourselves with glorious food and we tried to find a reason to do so...

That's how we ended up celebrating the birthday of the October babies with korean food (kimchi!) at the Crystal Jade Ginseng Chicken...and catching the movie, "The departed" after the meal.

We had the expensive (about $50++++) imperial set meal and mr FAT got his belated gifts from ms Cactus and Ms Kitty...

But all of us felt that the imperial set was not worth the $$$...

We caught the movie, "the departed"...three words to summarize the movie, Predictable, Violent, Crude :P The guys dun even look as hot as Andy and Tony in the HK version!

anyway, here's the photos.....

The Imperial Da Chang Jin Set.....

Look at the centre photo...

tada!

His bdae gifts... dun they look like him? His fav cartoon character! I dun even have a fav cartoon character!
Super Mashi-Maros!

Busy Bumblebee

Buzy buzy buzy....

At home : My mum and dad had gone on a 9-day tour (gasp!) to China...I had to move back my mum's home to make sure my sis wakes up in time for her 'O' levels practicals...Had to wash, clean, cook (ok, maybe not. Does boiling water count?) for two homes for these 9 days...

At work: Got a press conference coming up on next tues, was given less than a week to prepare the press kit, banner, presentation, press invite, coordination of the various panel spokesmen...

The public holidays are over :( I have got a couple of photos in my cam to upload but simply can't find the time and mood to do that...

Good news is....

Was juz told that the press conference is postponed to next fri..phew! a few more days to work on it! Dun ve to swop my working Sat!

My mum and dad are coming back soon! :D

I miss them lots! Esp. my mum!

I wonder how she manages to wash my siblings' very-fast-growing pile of clothes everyday!

Updates coming soon...meanwhile try out the below cool link!

Fish farms' adventure

Mr FAT and I brought my little sista along with us to visit the fish farms at Lim Chu Kang last Saturday.
To date, we have covered Chua Chu Kang, Lim Chu Kang fish farms. We will be going to Pasir Ris and Yio Chu Kang fish farms over the next two weekends... :P
It was exciting 'sight-seeing' trip for mr FAT and an interesting educational trip for my sis...but for me .....yawnz...I m not a fish lover!
But I kept myself entertained, looking out for unique fishes while mr FAT and my sis indulged themselves in the galaxy of fishes....
...like the one in the photo with my sis...
You can't see it clearly but it's a huge pomfret-lookalike fish!
Do you know you have to pay at least $600 for a small stingray (live one, not cooked one)?
We also saw a live freshwater fish the size of a crocodile in a gigantic water tank protected with metal caging. I dunno if the metal caging is there to protect the fish or to protect us from the big fish!
There are these "Ghost Knife" fishes which look like black feathers in the water...eerie...
And a black 'sucker' fish (you know those type which eats fungi and other rubbish in your fishtanks) the size of a mini vaccum cleaner!
Those expensive $30 - $80 white and red micro mini prawns..even smaller than 'hei bi'!!!!
real dumb to rear these prawns coz they need a certain temperature to survive and you have to go real close to the fish tanks to spot them.
Those crazy fish farm people even 'tattooed' the fishes with red and blue ink and called them rainbow fishes...imagine a parrot fish with lipstick and blue and red stripes running across their scales...ewws!
You also see water hermit crabs with colour-painted shells...red and black webby spiderman shell, turtle green shell etc...
The most absurb was the arowanas...the deformed ones (the entire tail-body bending down 90 degrees) can fetch up to $2,888, even more expensive than the normal ones...Arowanas lovers see that as a unique breed to rear...poor fishes...evil fish farmers...pervertish arowana lovers
I wished I could take photos of all those strange fishes but I did not dare to do so under the watchful eyes of the fish farm people...
I would try taking some photos in my next trip to the farms...

Meaningful Sunday

I m glad that we spent a meaningful sunday at Ren Ci Medicare Centre at Buangkok. The Medicare Centre takes care of the chronically ill and stroke patients. The patients admitted there are either from low income families or they do not have a family at all.

I m glad that my colleague, Ms Cactus, my brother and his big group of frens joined us in this visit.

We brought freshly made soya bean drink, pandan cakes, grapes, biscuits and handmade windmills to the patients.

Most of us were surprised by the turnout of volunteers and I m glad that they did not mind braving the haze, travelling to the hospital on mr FAT's 'open-top' lorry. The spirit of volunteerism!

Christine, our Chairman, taught all of us how to do a balloon sculpture of a dog. We had fun doing the balloon dogs which were also given to the patients.

My brother brought along his guitar and the whole group of us practised some songs while making the balloon dogs. It was like in school days!

When we got everything ready, we started visiting the wards, stopping at every ward to sing songs, creating a happy mood in the quiet, solemn wards. We also prepared and distributed the goodies, food and drinks to the patients. It was heartwrenching to see the patients struggling to put the food in their mouths.

We do not know if the patients were happy to see us, but all of us were glad that we were able to do these little things for them.

Thanks to Christine for initiating this visit and teaching us how to 'sculpt' balloon dogs, kudos! to our YEC members, Miona (Ren Ci staff) and of course, all our friends cum volunteers :)

Vivocity!

We went to Vivocity last sunday!

Hip place to hang out in the future :)

Why it look like that?

"Every element is naturally connected to one, allowing you to experience the space through your senses."
Inspired by the natural surroundings of the harbour front, award-winning Japanese architect, Toyo Ito, created a light, fluid, relaxed ambience around VivoCity. Skylights bring the city and nature together - while the flowing surface configuration leads you intuitively from one experience to another.
Enhancing the sensory experience are water-feature installations gracing the waterfront promenade, lighting effects simulating the phases of the moon and the tropical landscape along the boardwalk and through to the rooftop amphitheatre.

What's in there?

Singapore's largest multiplex cinema
A brand new concept hypermarket
Department store
Flagship lifestyle concept stores
Over 1 million sq. ft. of retail, F&B and entertainment concepts
Rooftop play pool, the area of 4 Olympic swimming pools ....I wonder what's that? Did not explore the roof while I was there...
300m waterfront promenade
Open-air amphitheatre
Open-air courtyard on Level 2 featuring engaging and interactive water features
Event spaces

His hazy bdae

7 Oct 06, Sat

It's his birthday!

It's also the haziest day ever! ;P

City skyline shrouded with ash

Even the trees are running from the haze!

I have been giving him gifts since 2 Oct 06, one gift everyday till his bdae...

Inexpensive, practical gifts I gave him...just as he wished. (razor blades, belt, cologne...etc boring guy stuff)

What was exciting and interesting to him were not the gifts, but the bdae dinner treat!

I brought him to this jap restaurant, Ikoi at Miramar Hotel where we had a fabulous ala carte buffet dinner (yes, its buffet again! its his fav food!).

Compared to Hanabi and Kushibo jap restaurant, it has less variety of food but mr Fat thought that Ikoi's food taste better. I agreed with him and the service was good.

The restaurant allow reservations at specified timing so that they could control the number of customers they are serving. Yes, you have to book in advance to have the buffet dinner there!
Because of this practice, they were able to dish out hot piping food pretty fast right after you place your orders.

Unlike most ala carte buffets, you do not feel that you have to wait for your food, you also do not feel that you have too many dishes on your table at one time. Their sashimi was very fresh and they also served complimentary surprise food items every now and then.

After our dinner, we went to collect his complimentary bdae cake from Secret Recipe and we had a mj session with the biyongz and the singtellerz (haha..new name for the couple!)

I tink the best bdae gift for him was that I agreed to getting a fish tank for our orange hse!

Men.....they are so easy to please ;)

Afternote: He had set up his fish tank on sunday. Tink he would buy the $188 small red arowana which he had been eyeing during our trip to Qianhu fish farm

Hazy days

Went out, into the haze this morning.

The smoky smell lingers in the air and I have phlegm in my throat. I had a few really bad coughs just now, I tink I choked on the dust particles. My eyes are smarting and I had to keep blinking my eyes to keep the tears coming...

Reached the building and the air-conditioned environment. Relief but not for long...

Now, I m going into the haze in another 15 mins. Damn....

'Uniquely' me (Part 2)

And so the topic continues...

I'm UNIQUE 2 (too) !

And here it goes :

  1. I love eggs so much tt I always have them almost everyday... (Almost 2-3 eggs/day! The fact abt high cholestrol never stop me since young =P )
  2. Whenever I'm home, I always listen radio (Hi-Fi) at bedtime til sleep... & wake up the next day still listening... (Maybe I hope to hear some music in my dreams too. Or I hope not to sleep in fear when room alone at dark. Actually, I'm simply addicted to music in my life, esp when alone!)
  3. I hate scary movies! (Well, I'm not even interested if anyone is giving me a treat for any horror show. But, I dare to watch scary cartoons! hehe)
  4. Usually, I washes my hair once every 3 days... unless I really nothing to do. (Cos it seems boring, actually lazy enough to wait for my long hair to get dry.... Lazy to use hairdryer.)
  5. I dun like to wear sleevesless clothes for years. (Cos I dun like to show off my fatty arms in public!)
  6. I like to wash my hands often. (During my office hrs of touching some papers or files, I like to visit the washroom JUST TO WASH HANDS only... Or even just reaching home, I would always go to toliet and wash my hands 1st before doing any other things.)
  7. I love taking photos with my camera. (Including food. Just one reason, cos they also have very nice sexy colours too! But I had no choice but to stop taking photo of it when someone stops me...) And hor, I love taking many lovely pictures while I'm still YOUNG. Those must be only memories of my smile. It's not easy to remember when u had last smiled, u noe? Dun you agree there's so many beautiful things ard you everyday??
  8. I SUPER love to sing. (Sing & sing... not becos I think I can sing well, but just becos I have a strong passion in singing. I even like singing CNY songs during Chinese New Year, I like singing xmas songs during Christmas, I like singing SG songs during National Day... etc etc.. )
  9. I always put on make-up whenever outside for more than 1hr. (Including going swiming, or sweating out lata etc etc... Just becos I dun feel like going anywhere else, without any minimum make-up!)
  10. (a) I cries easily. (Just try shouting @ me & dun you regret after tt!!! ) (b) BUT, I also smile easily when someone offers me a beer or a glass of red wine... (LoLz!)

Ok Ok! Enough of my weird habits OR secrets....

Many more to list but it's bedtime already...

But as like most horror movies says;

"Know Lesser & You'll Live Longer."

And that's all, folks~ Beep Beep!!

'Uniquely' me

Everyone is unique in his / her own way.

Don't everyone have their own unique, 'weird' habits / secrets?

I m 'unique'.....

1. I wear my watch on my right wrist, even though I m not a leftie. I even taught my bro and sis (when they were still impressionable tiny tots) to wear theirs on their right wrists when they write on their right. Now, they are freaks like me!

2. I have to have a bottle of water next to my bed before I sleep. I may not even drink it during the whole nite but it must be freshly refilled every nite.

3. I use different towels for drying my body and my hair/face. I wonder why our drying towels stink and we need to wash them when they are only used to dry our clean, freshly-bathed bodies.

4. I m allegic to colgate and darlin toothpaste. Clinolym is the only toothpaste I can use.

5. I can't sleep with the radio/ music on. Snoring too, of coz.

6. I love to munch on green peas and tapioca chips. Whenever I have the urge, I wld buy a bag of these and munch it all up in one sitting. Of coz, the next day I wld normally have to nurse a sore throat.

7. I.don't.wear.earrings.and.never.will. I still have the 2 pairs of diamond earrings given to me on my bdae years ago. Obviously by guy frens who did not notice my ears during our years of frenship.

8. I have one tiny strand of hair growing from my chin which I would pluck every now and then. Stop giggling, it's not a beard, like what I have said, it's one strand of hair.

9. I like the number 9. That's why I ended my list at the no.9

I m uniquely 'me', what about you?
Dun shy, tell me lah...

Busy weekend

Had a packed weekend. phew!

Movie Friday
Caught the latest Jackie Chan's movie, Rob-B-Hood with Ms Cactus. Thought it was a silly comedy but was surprised by the movie.

I laughed so hard at the hilarious ways of how two grown men take care of a cute-looking baby and teared during the touching moments when the men risked their lives to save the baby.

Still not convinced to watch the movie? Oh man, I suck at movie reviews.

Take a peek at the interesting movie website and watch the movie yourself to decide if its worth watching!

Mooncakes and Wines

I was shocked when I reached Crown Prince Hotel to find that Longjiang Restaurant has closed down. I was advised by the conceige that I could get the similiar crispy crust yam mooncakes at meritus mandarin. But when I reach there, it was sold out!

Finally, I managed to get the yam mooncakes from another restaurant which had a stall at Taka event square.

Happily and satisfied with my buy, I brought the mooncakes and a barney lantern to my in-laws' hse with mr FAT.

Our nephew happily 'destroyed' the lantern within few minutes. The bulb was smashed into pieces and poor barney was drenched with his saliva. Luckily, the lantern was pretty cheap ;)

Dropped by the Women's Expo with the gals to support qiqi's wine booth. Did some wine tasting and the sparkling wines she is selling taste surprisingly refreshing! The names of the wines she is selling is 'Lust' and Envy'...sexy names! She is selling consignments for functions/ events like weddings....

Wedding of Guorong & Wendy

Went to G & W hse in the morning.

Their 'old' 4 room flat is gigantic! I figured they can put 4 mahjong tables in the kitchen, 6 in the living room and two in the each of the 3 bedrooms! gasp!

Like mr Fat and me, G & W had bought an 'old-soon-to-be-teared-down' flat in exchange with a spanky new flat in Bedok Central in 2008. They would have to contend with a significantly smaller new 4 room flat in 2008....Stupid new designs of HDB flats...

Anyway, we attended their wedding dinner at Laguna Country Club at Tamah Merah (mr FAT pronounces it this way).

The food was ok, I liked the wasabi mango prawns! But dun really like the low ceiling ballroom and the columns though....

I loved their bridal suite, it was huge! and the view outside was really pretty with the swimming pool and golf course. There was a two-person bathtub, lovely!

Our table was occupied by 4 couples; the FatPigz, the Biyongz, Zhiwei & Christina, Jason & Christine and one guy (Mark!).

Here's some photos taken!

Post bdae celebrations

I m slow in updating photos....

Anyway, my bdae celebrations did not stop on my bdae.

The yec gang celebrated with me during our monthly meeting. We had a cake and Johan bought us some thai desserts and durian puffs. yummy!

And over my bdae weekend, I had a very sinful bdae 'banquet' with my family at East Coast Lagoon Food Centre.

The items on the menu of my sinful banquet includes; 2 plates of wanton mee, 1 bowl of laksa, 1 big pot of stewed duck with salted vege, 1 plate of carrot cake, 1 plate of hokkien mee, 1 plate of oyster egg, 10 chicken wings, 10 sticks of satay, 1 sambal stingray, 3 bowls of rice, 4 big glasses of sugarcane drinks, 1 whole honeymelon...all these consumed by 6 of us (includes mr FAT who was not in the picture)

It was smackingly good and fattening!!!
